Transcontinental Railroad Railroad that crosses the continent.
Coolies Chinese immigrants who came to work on the railroad
Promontory point Utah Place in northwestern Utah where tracks of the union pacific and central pacific railroads met in 1865 to complete the transcontinental railroad.
Homesteader Settlers who claimed land on the great plains during the homestead act.
homestead act Law signed in 1862 offering free land to the people willing to start new farms on the great plains.
sodbuster A person in the great plains who ripped up sod to plant crops
soddy A house made of sod
