| Golden Age | A period of great peace and wealth,led by Pericles, during that time Athens was the artistic and cultural center of Greece. |
| Pericles | The leader of Athens. When he led Athens (479-431 B.C.E) they entered a period of great peace and wealth. |
| Acropolis | The hill above a Greek city, Athens, which temples and earthy homes were built. Most of the buildings were made of stone. Only the wealthy aristocrats were able to live on acropolis. |
| Parthenon | The temple honoring the goddess, Athena, built on acropolis. The Parthenon was a very important place to Athenians. |
| Myth | A traditional story that helps to explain a cultural belief. Such as stories passed on in families for generations. |
| Arichitecture | The art of designing buildings which usually has a frieze, a pediment, and columns. |
| Sculpture | The art of creating three dimensional figures from wood, stone, and clay. Such as the sculpture of Athena in the Parthenon. |
| Socrates | Socrates were the teachers of philosophy who were usually very wise men. |
| Plato | Plato is a philosopher such as Socrates who taught different things. |
| Panathenaic Games | Athletic games and events to honor gods and goddesses. Which is very important to all Athenians. |
| Olympics | A very important athletic game honoring Zues. The Olympics was usually more important than the Panatheniac Games. |
