| Term | Definition |

| Equator | Imaginary line that divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres (left to right)at 0 degrees |
| Prime Meridian | Imaginary line that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole (up and down) and divides the Earth into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres at 0 degrees. Runs through Greenwich, England |
| Latitude | Imaginary lines that circle the Earth parallel to the Equator. (left to right) |
| Longitude | Imaginary lines that run north to south from North Pole to South Pole (up and down) |
| Parallels | Another name for lines of latitude. Lines that run from left to right around the world. |
| Meridians | Another name for lines of longitude. Lines that run up and down around the world. |
| Orbit | The path followed by the Earth as it travels around the Sun (24 hours = 1 day) |
| Revolution | A full orbit of the Earth around the Sun (365 days=1 year) |
| Rotation | The spinning motion of the Earth |
| Compass Rose | Directional finder on the map labeled N,S,E,W |
| Climate Region | An area of the earth with similar type of weather |
