| Plantation | *Very large farm in the South that grew cash crops *Relied on slavery in order to make a profit |
| Enlightenment | *European intellectual movement in which people began to question the purpose of gov't and the rights of the people. |
| Natural Rights | *Rights you are born with, and which are not supposed to be taken away. *Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness |
| John Locke | *European Enlightenment thinker *Wrote about Natural Rights *Said gov't exists to protect Natural Rights *If a gov't doesn't protect Natural Rights, the people can overthrow it. |
