| Mountain | Land with steep sides that rises sharply from surrounding land |
| Plain | large area of flat or gently rolling land |
| Valley | Area of low land between hills or mountains |
| Desert | hot, dry sandy region with little or no vegetation or animal life |
| Isthmus | Narrow stretch of land connecting two larger land areas |
| Plateau | large raised, flat or gently rolling land |
| Ocean | One of the four major bodies of salt water that surrounds continents |
| River | Large stream of water within a definite course or channel |
| Lake | A large inland body of water |
| Gulf | Large body of water that extends into a shoreline |
| Strait | Narrow water passage between 2 larger bodies of water |
