| Term | Definition |

| archipelago | a large group or chain of islands |
| bog | wet, spongy, ground with soil composed mainly of decayed vegetable matter |
| delta | a nearly flat plain with alluvial deposit between diverging branches of the mouth of a river, often, though not necessarily, triangular |
| fjord | a long, narrow, arm of the sea bordered by steep cliffs: usually formed by glacial erosion |
| flood plain | low, flat land along a stream or river that may flood |
| glacier | an extended mass of ice formed from snow falling and accumulating over the years and moving very slowly, either descending from mountains, or moving outward from centers of accumulation |
| island | an area of land surrounded completely by water |
| isthmus | a narrow strip of land, bordered on both sides by water, connecting two larger bodies of land |
| peninsula | a body of land surrounded by water on three sides |
| plain | a flat area of land |
| plateau | a land having a relatively level surface, considerably raised above adjoining land on at least one side, and often cut by deep canyons |
| rifts | a deep crack or opening in the ground: a break in the earth's surface |
| strait | a narrow passage of water connecting two larger bodies of water |
| tributary | a stream that flows to a larger stream or body of water |
