Map Skills

Owen social studies

TermDefinition
Maps a representation of some part of the earth.
Physical Maps shows naturals features such as mountains, rivers,lakes,oceans and other parts of the natural landscape.
Political Maps show borders of areas like countries,states and cities
Historical Maps shoe movements of people, changing borders, battles,and other historical events.
Symbols little pictures used to represent anything you want.
Legend (key) tells you what the symbols, lines and colors on the map mean
Labels words that can explain something about the map.
Compass Rose tells you which way north, south, east, and west are.
Scale shows the ratio between the distance on the map and the distance in real life.
Latitude and Longitude tell you your exact location the planet
Mineral Resources of Africa fuel, precious meals, gemstones, no-metals.
