Scientific Process

TermDefinition
Problem A question you are trying to answer.
Materials A "list" of things you will need to perform your experiment or investigation
Method A numbered list of steps to follow.
Hypothesis A testable explanation predicting the outcome of your experiment (it must be an "If...then" statement)
Variables things that may cause a change in the outcome outcome of an experiment
Independent what we are testing in the experiment
dependent what will happen or be tested or be tested in the experiment
constant things you do not change in the experiment
control something that does not recieve the independent variable; its the original thing you set aside for comparison when the experiment is complete.
data and observations a chart or table you design to record and display your observations or information found during the experiment.
conclusion An answer to your question, or the results of your experiment summarized in paragraph form.
