What are state agencies/statutory?
What are state boards?
Who do you see in a courtroom? judges
What is the supreme court? Highest ranking court and also an appellate court
Number of justices in supreme court? Varied from 5-10
Length of terms of supreme court? Unlimited
What is adjudicate mean? decide
What are criminal laws? They protect society from the wrong doing of an individual
What are civil laws? They deal with relationships between individuals
what is a tort? an injury done to a person can be compensated money
Plaintiffs can do what? Can sue (file a lawsuit against) the offender (called the defendant)
What is a felony? a very serious crime
How is a felony punished? by sentence of more than 1 year
What is an example of a capital felony? murder
What is a misdemeanor? A less severe crime
How is a misdemeanor punished? sentence up to a year(less serious punishment)
