Landmarks

TermDefinition
Plain- a flat or gently rolling area of land with only moderate changes in elevation.
Tributary A stream or river that flows into a main stream (lake or river.)
Glacier large, long-lasting river of slow-moving ice on land. Glaciers helped to create many of the land forms on the planet.
Strait a narrow passage of water connecting two seas or two large areas of water.
Island An area of land completely surrounded by water.
Peninsula a piece of land almost surrounded by water or projecting out into a body of water.
Plateau an area of relatively level high ground.
Isthmus a narrow strip of land with water on both sides that joins two larger land masses.
Delta its low watery land formed at the mouth of a river. its formed with the sand and small rocks that flow downstream.
Floodplain an area of low-lying ground adjacent to a river, formed mainly of river sediments and subject to flooding.
Rift A crack, break or split in something
Archipelago a group of islands or a cluster of islands usually found in the open sea. They can be formed by erosion but most often occur as the result of volcanic activity.
Bog A wet, soft ground, to heavy to support anything heavy.
Fjrod a narrow inlet of the sea between high cliffs or banks. Fjords were created by glaciers.
