Thirteenth Amendment This states the freedom of slaves
Freedmen Former slaves that could not read or write and had no jobs.
Freedmen's Bureau A system that provided food, clothing, and medical supplies to needy blacks.
Reconstruction Rebuiding
Radical Republicans Those who wanted to make the South pay dearly for the war.
Pocket Veto An indirect veto.
Black Codes Series of laws intended to restrict the freedom of blacks.
Impeach To bring charges of the wrongdoing against an elected official while that person is still in office.
Carpetbagger Northern Whites who had moved south after the war.
Scalawag White southerners who had not participate in the Confederacy.
Sharecropping A form of tenant farming.
Ku Klux Klan A club from Germany.
White Supremacy The belief that the white race is superior to all other races.
Redeemer Succeed in getting control of the government.
