How is igneous rock formed? When magma cools and hardens
How is sedimentary rock formed? When Dead Sea animals reach the bottom of a sea/ocean/lake/river and sand layers the animals and pressure causes the layer to turn to rock
How is metamorphic rock formed? When heat and/or pressure occurs deep within the earth's surface causing it to form rock
What root word mans "to change"? Morph
How does the MOHs scale work? It's a scale from 1-10 , 1 being the softest and 10 being the hardest. It helps people determine how hard or soft a rock or mineral is
If a rock has layers with crystals in it what what type of rock will it be? Metamorphic
Can rocks change form one type to another? Yes
What term refers to sediment pressing down on layers and squeezing particles together? Compaction
What could be used to test the hardness of a mineral greater than 7? A diamond
If the particles that make up a rock have large crystal formation, what type of rock is it and how quickly will it form? Igneous; slowly
List 4 different physical properties used to identify rocks and minerals? Color; Luster; Streak; Hardness
