Embargo Act Dec.1807- forbade US ships to sail for foreign ports anywhere in the world, and caused suffering to our economy

Congress repealed Embargo Act and replaced it with the Non-intercourse Act 1809-banned trade with ports under British or French control but allowed trade with the rest of the world
Macon's Bill No. 2 1810- stated that if either France of Britain agreed to respect neutral rights, the US would cut off trade with the other nation; Napolean considered repealing decrees and Madison immediately cut off trade with Great Britain.

Reasons Andrew Jackson wanted to attacking Canada 1. Sparsely populated by French Canadians that were lukewarm toward British 2. St. Lawerence River and Lake Ontario was close and open to attack at all points 3. Montreal, their capitol was very close
Battle of Thames 1813, group of kentucky volunteers under Harrison advance into Canada
Battle of Lake Erie 1813, commodore Oliver Perry constructed a small fleet and won battle. established control of lake erie and more importantly made a possible invasion of Canada through Detroit
Washington 1813, British attacked and burned the capitol including the white house, in retaliation to the U.S. burning buildings in York (now toronto)
Baltimore 1813, after washington attacked baltimore but were stopped at the Battle of Ft. Mchenry
