| Political Party | consists of three separate components; the party organization, the party in government, and the party in the electorate. understood as an organized coalition of interests that seeks to influence government |
| Party Platform | The statement or document developed by the political party to include its official position on issues and public concern |
| Political machines (patronage system) | Hand out jobs in exchange for votes and political support |
| Political Activists | Those that support a political party and participate in campaign activities |
| Party polarization | Fewer republicans and democrats taking moderate positions in congress |
| Recall | A means for voters to remove and elected official before term is up |
| Referendum | The means for citizens to participate in policymaking by voting directly on a variety of measures , including initiatives, or recalls. |
