| Presidency of Monroe | His presidency was the relaxed period before the civil war. He ended the tension between Spain and Florida. He had to help our country through it's first economic depression. |

| Lewis and Clark | They brought back several things to the United States including a prairie dog to President Jefferson. They also told others about their discoveries along the expedition like the grizzle bear. |
| War of 1812 | For Native Americans it demolished their chances to govern themselves. It ended the fighting of partisans and the government and began the "Era of Good Feelings." Finally it raised the country's confidence and spirits. |
| East meets West-Japan and China | In 1784, the first ship to sail to China from the United States was the Empress of China. This was significant to U.S. history because this was the beginning of years of trade with the East. The United States and China traded tea, porcelain, and silk. |
| Forty-Niners | The earliest people to look for gold during the California Gold Rush. People from all around the world traveled to California to find gold of their own. |
| Mormons | Mormons began migrating from the Midwest United States to Utah in the year 1846. They created a civilization in complete isolation, where they could practice their beliefs freely. |
| Oregon Trail | This was a trail that was more than 2,000 miles long. It connected the Missouri River to valleys in Oregon. Citizens of America wanted to travel to Oregon because it was said to be a perfect environment free of diseases. |
| Sante Fe Trail | The Santa Fe Trail connected Franklin, Missouri with Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was for military and commercial uses. It played a big role in the United State's economic development. |
| Manifest Destiny | Citizens believed the United States of America was going to expand across the entire continent. Democrats used it in the 1840s to justify the war with Mexico. Americans also used the manifest destiny to receive pieces of Oregon from Britain. |
| Mining Claims | Mining was used to help move people in the west, it was a success from gold that was found in the west. The people moving there would help mineral resource development. The people who did move into the west got land for a good deal. |
| Homesteading | Different United States federal laws giving an applicant ownership of land at little or no cost. |
| Ranching | The ranching helped with having food to eat, it would provide food and land. |
| Corporate Mining | Corporate Mining gives corporate services possible compliance with the financial and company secretarial obligations. Corporate Mining also provides companies with financial and corporate advice. |
| Factory Labor | The first factory in the US had began after George Washington became president. The factories started out with children pushing foot treadles to operate the machines. |
| New Inventions | America has a good history of having great inventors and inventions. Some have failed, but tons have been a success. With out the new inventions, America would not be the same America it is today. |
| Native Lands | Native Americans were forced out of their native lands, by the Colonists. They had to fight for their land. (I have no idea what to write for this one! Help!) |
| Louisiana Purchase | Louisiana was bought from French territories for less than 3 cents per acre. Adding to a total of 15 million dollars. |
| Mexican American War | A war caused by the annexation of texas in 1845, because mexico still considered texas as its territory. |

| Secession | The 'withdrawal' of states from the union, or leaving a state or territory. |
| War | a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air. |
| Monroe Doctrine | A policy that said that if Europeans tried to colonize American land it will be taken as an act of war. |
| Treaty of Guadeloupe | A peace treaty between the US and Mexico that ended the Mexican-American War |

| Gadsen Purchase | A region of current day Arizona/New Mexico purchased by the Americans in 1854 |
| Adams-Onis Treaty | A treaty between the US and Spain about the boarder between the US and "New Spain" (nowadays Mexico) |
