Unit 1 Significance

Jamestown It was the first settlement that thrived.
Pocahontas She is important because she helped Luis and Clark find America.
Plymouth It is important because that is where the pilgrims decided to land on America and build Jamestown.
Georgia It was the first colony to stop slavery. It was set up different than the other colonies and was a boarder between spanish and americans
Right of Individuals Were different back then we didn't have as many rights as a British did Americans had limited rights if they owned land.

Starving Time It is important because after John Smith left for England, Chief Powhatan chose to stop feeding the settlers and they starve. It showed how the NA wanted to get rid of the settlers.
Native American plight It is important because it shows how some new things can wipe out generations of work.
Middle Colonies It is important because they had religious tolerance and rich soil to grow crops and export them.
Puritans this group is important because they brought an early system of religious tolerance, but they were not religiously tolerant of others.
Protestant Revolution It is important because it crushed the Catholic Church across Europe.
Virginia House of Burgesses Was important because it was the first colony to assemble a house of elected representatives of english colonist in north American.
Pilgrims They are important because they escaped the king and fled to America. Without them we would not have America.
Plantation Agriculture It is important because the pilgrims used this technique to grow mass cash crops to eat and barter. Without using the Plantation technique they would not have been able to feed all the pilgrims and would not be able to barter and make money.
Boston General Court This court served more than one purpose to serve the citizens. It helped create laws for people. Without this court there would be no laws in Boston. This court also was important because it served as a court of appeals.
Mayflower compact It was important because it was on of the first government document of the Plymouth colony.
William Penn Was the leader of the Pennsylvania colony. He performed the Holy Experiment.
Holy Experiment The Holy Experiment was important because it staged the Quakers to go into war. During the Revolution they were wiped out and the experimentation failed. Without the Quaker experiment we would not have seen how the Quakers live their lives.
Pennsylvania Frame of Government It was important because they would not be able to have freedom within PA. Citizens rights would not have been protected without the Frame of Government being written by William Penn.
Fundamental Orders of Connecticut The orders were important because it described how the Government was setup. Without having a proper Government setup it may not have worked out how things did.
Maryland Act of Tolerance The Act was important because it mandated that trinitarian Christians. Without this law British North American colonies would not have religious tolerance, and would not have treated people fair.
