| Presidencies of George Washington | He set the bar for future presidents. He entered the office with full support of national and state leadership. |
| John Adams | Politician and business man, also a director of the Continental Congress. |
| Thomas Jefferson | American founding father and the principle author of the Declaration of Independence. Also the third president of the United States and served in the Continental Congress. |
| James Monroe | Last president that was a founding father of the United States. Fought in the Revolutionary War and also served as a delegate in the Continental Congress. |
| Andrew Jackson | 7th president of the United States, and an army general who defeated the creek indians. |
| Lewis and Clark | They were the first Transcontinental expedition they conducted. The task was undertaken by the United States and was commissioned by Thomas Jefferson. |
| War of 1812 | A 32 month conflict and resolved the remaining issues of independence. |
| East meets West-Japan and China | Japan-They wanted to get new technology like steam engines, so Matthew Perry had to open up Japan to the West. China-Statement of principles initiated by the United States for the protection of equal privileges among countries trading with China. |
| Forty-Niners | People started to flock to the United States in 1848, all told the news of gold, 300,000 people came to mine in California. |
| Mormons | Started in New York in 1820, they followed the leader to a territory in Utah, now most of the Mormon culture in influenced in Utah. |
| Oregon Trail | A 2,000 mile wagon route, the significance of this trail is that it transported people from Missouri across the states. |
| Santé Fe Trail | Connected Franklin, Missouri to New Mexico and it was a good trail by gold miners (mostly used by gold miners). |
| Manifest Destiny | A belief widely held by Americans that America would spread across the continent. |
| Mining Claims | The general mining act of 1872 that governs prospecting and mining for economical resources such as gold. |
| Homesteading | Lifestyle of self-sufficiency. Home preservation of foodstuffs. It was significant because it proved that people knew how to live on their own. |
| Ranching | The practice of raising livestock such as cattle or sheep. |
