What is doctrine of separation of powers? It divides power into branches and keeps from one branch having too much power.

What is the vice president's role in the legislative branch? He is president of the Senate and only votes when there is a tie.

What is the power of the executive branch in relation to the nation's laws? To enforce the laws.
What are the grounds of impeachment? Treason, bribery, and any other kind of illegal crimes.
What does the fact that the Constitution allows for the removal of a president from office show about American government? It is based on the system of check and balances.
What role does the Constitution assign to the judicial branch? To interpret the laws.
On what ground can a federal count strike down state and federal law? When the law is unconstitutional.
What checks do the other branches have over the judicial branch? The president (executive branch) appoints the Supreme Court Justices (judicial branch).
Why did James Madison promise to add a bill of rights to the Constitution? Americans feared that a strong central government might take the states' rights.
According to the idea of majority rule, whose decisions make policy for everyone? The biggest number of people in society.
How can majority rule interfere with the protection of people's individual rights? Not granting the minority group rights.
What was the main reason the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution? To define the rights and freedoms of the citizens.
Why were the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th amendments significant 1700s? British soldiers forced citizens to submit to the authority.
What is "due process of law"? Placed limitations on laws and legal procceeding to guarantee of fairness and justice.
What is double jeopardy? Right for government to take land.
What is the Supreme Court's position on cruel and unusual punishment when it comes to people convicted of crime? Not all executions are cruel and unusual but death penalty is.
According to the 9th and 10th amendments, who gets to decide on other basic rights? Judicial branch and Congress.
What are reserved powers? Powers that just the federal government has.
What are concurred powers? Powers that both federal and state government have.
What are delegated powers? Powers that just the state government have.
What is the naturalization process? Steps taken in order to become a US citizen.
What 3 steps must be done in order to become a US citizen? 1. Naturalization 2. At least one parent born in the US 3. Born is the US
What privileges do legal US citizens have? Ability to vote and gain employment.
What is the most important responsibility of a US citizen? Voting.
Why do American men 18 years or older have to register with the Selective Service? If there was a draft, they would have people to call in need of an army.
