| Homestead | People who settled in the west as a result of the homestead act of 1862. People could get free land from the government if they farmed there for 6 years. |
| Reservation | Land government gave to the Indians to live on. |
| Laissez-Faire | Government decided to let business do whatever they wanted. |

| Robber Barons | An American industrialist of financial magnates of the late 19th century who became wealthy by robbing travelers passing the area where he lived. |
| The Long Drive | Where Cowboys herded cattle threw Texas to Eastern Cities in rain or shine. |
| Corruption | Politicians are more influenced by money and power than by the will of the people. |
| Stew | When new people in a country keep some of their characteristics. |
