Primary agents (of socialization) Interact closely and regularly with the individual, usually earlier in life. (THE FAMILY)
Secondary agents (of socialization) Intimate connection with the indv. and are usually more important later in life (WORK ASSOCIATES)
Economic Liberals Gov't involvement in economics (A large amount)
Economic Conservative Gov't should stay out of the economy (free market)
Cultural (Social) Liberals Leaves lifestyle choices to the individual.
Cultural (Social) Conservatives Use the government to promote traditional values.
Libertarian No gov't involvement in social or economic.
Populist Gov't in Social and Economic (Mad gov'ts)
Ideology A coherent set of political beliefs.
Party Identification A person's ingrained sense of loyalty to a political party.
Political Socialization Acquiring political views as we age.
Political Culture Widely spread and deeply ingrained political opinions.
Population Residents of a country or city
Public Opinion Poll 'The sample' is interviewed in order to estimate the opinions of a whole 'population'.
The Sample (polling) A relatively few individuals
Public Opinion The politically relevant opinions held by ordinary citizens that they express openly.
Sampling error A way to express the accuracy of a poll
Crosscutting cleavages the tendency of polled individuals to respond against their true beliefs because of fear of being judged negatively
a practice that is almost uniquely American the flying of the American flag on private buildings and homes
