What is prohibition? total ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol
WHat is a public school? free schools supported by taxes
What is abolitionists? reformers who wanted to abolish or end slavery
What is a social reform? organized attempts to improve conditions of life
What is women's suffrage? right of women to vote
What is women's rights movement? organized effort to improve the political legal and economic status of women in American society
What is transcendentalism? movement that sought to explore the relationship between humans and nature through emotions rather than through reason
What is individualism? unque importance of each individual
What is civil disobedience? idea that people should peacefully disobey unjust laws if their consciences demand it
