who was Franklin d. Roosevelt. president from 1933-1944 helped people out with the great depression by creating the new deal.
who was Eleanor Roosevelt. Franklin d. roosevelt's wife also longest serving women of the first lady's.
who was James Braddock. american boxer who won the world heavy weight championship from 1935-137
why was the agricultural adjustment administration (AAA)made. made because farmers weren't getting much money for there supply's so farmers got payed by the government to grow fewer crops to increase wants for them in the market which raised prices.
why was the social security administration (SSA) made? made so retired workers would have money after they retired
why was the federal deposit insurance corporation (fdic)made? made so people dont have the fear of losing there savings.
why was the securities & exchange commission made? helps regulate sock markets
why was the civilian conservation corps made? made because of unemployment for men 18 to 25 years old
why was the Tennessee valley authority made? made because floods were happening and made labor for men
which programs still exist today? social security administration, federal deposit insurance corporation and securities and exchange commision
what were fire side chats. fdr's campaign strategy by connecting to the people of the USA by pretending to talk to them on the radio.
what was the hundred days. when FDR passed 15 separate bills in hundred days which had to do with the new deal.
what was the dust bowl? a big dust storm that happened in the 1930s in the states of Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, new mexico and texas.
what were okies? dust bowl migrants
what were hoovervilles? shanty towns named after president Herbert hoover built by homeless during the great depression.
what does it mean to buy on margin? buying stocks with loans from broakers
what does speculation mean? a message expressing an opinion based on incomplete evidence.
what was the public works program? the job of building done by the government for the community.
what was black Tuesday? the day the stock market crashed the worst.
what was the new deal? series of economic programs that FDR introduced to fixed up problems from the great depression.
what were some of the problems with the '20s economy that led to the depression? 1.buying on credit 2. problems for farmers 3.wealth distribution 4. credit and stock market 5. Oct 29 1929
describe the events on October 29th 1929. 1. the stock market crashed at its worst. 2. thousands of investors were wiped out.
what were the impacts of the depression? 1.more then 9,000 banks failed wiping out savings. 2.unemployment topped 25 percent. 3.tens of thousands of farms went bankrupt and also businesses.
what were the differences between hoover and FDR when it came to how to fix the country's economic problems? hoover cut taxes while fdr went and made the new deal.
what was the court packing plan? did FDR go through with it? a move by fdr to increase the size of the supreme court and bring in several new justices who would change the balance of opinion on the court.
what types of people criticized FDR? why? African Americans and women because he didn't acknowledged them as much.
what finally ended the great depression? world war II
