QuestionAnswer
Puritan Protestants who wanted to reform the Church of England.
Great Migration The result of economic, political, and religious problems in England. Between 1629 and 1640 many thousands of English men, women, and children left England.
"City on a Hill" A sermon given by John Winthrop describing the Puritan community as a model for others to follow. They would build a community based on Puritan values.
Fundamental Orders of Connecticut This set of principles made Connecticut's government more democratic.
King Philip's War Tensions had arisen between New England Colonists and Wampanoag.These tensions finally erupted to in a conflict know as King Philip's war.
French and Indian War Fighting began in Europe. After George Washington was defeated by the French, it started the French and Indian War, a war between the French and Spanish.
Quakers Society of Friends: Protestant sect founded in 1640s in England whose members believed that salvation was available to all people.
Refuge A place of safety.
Religious Tolerance Respecting or allowing different religions.
Religious Persecution The systematic mistreatment of an individual or group because of their religious beliefs.
Treaty of Paris- 1763 The treaty changed the balance of power in North America.
Proclamation of 1763 A proclamation from the british government which forbade British colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains, and which required any settlers already living west of the mountains to move back east.
