Social Gospel movement A 19th century reform movement based on the belief that Christians have a responsiblity to help improve working conditions and alleviate poverty
Jane Addams One of the most influential members of the Social Gospel movement, co-founder of the Hull House in 1886, co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize
"Boss" Tweed Head of Tammany Hall (New York City's powerful Democratic political manchine), led the Tweed Ring (a group of currupt politicians) in defrauding the city
Melting Pot a mixture of people of different cultures and races who blended together by abandoning their native language and customs
