What important idea came out of Gibson vs. Ogden? Supreme Court declared monopoly unconstitutional Only Federal govt regulates interstate trade.

What was the era of good feelings? Nationalism increased, 1 political party, sectionalism hidden, spirit of harmony
What was the Missouri Compromise? Missouri wanted to enter the union (slave state) but we have and equal number of slave states and free states which would disrupt the balance of power
What was the 36' 30' line? Divided free and slave states
What was the Monroe Doctrine? Europe needed to stay out of the Western Hemisphere and could not add colonies, US will dominate matters in Latin America
Why did slavery emerge in the United States? Palntation owners needed cheap, reliable labor force for cotton and rice- labor was very intense
What were the rights of slaves? Couln't own land, sign contracts, leave owners property, own guns,
What was Nat Turner's Rebellion? Turner was a slave adn minister, led slaves in his area in a revolt, killed 50 white men, kids, slave owners increased severity of laws and life became more difficult for them
