What was the french and indian war? a war between the french and indians against the british. they were fighting over land in the ohio river valley
who won the war? the british defeated the french and the indians
why did "the crown" impose heavy taxes? to pay off the debt of war (king george the III)
what was the quartering act? the act required colonists to house british soldiers and provide them with food and all other necessary resources
what was the stamp act? required colonists to purchase stamps for all kinds of products and activities
what was the sugar act? the act required a duty-import tac on several products; smugglers were delt with
what was the significant about the boston tea party? a group of colonists dressed up as indians and went to the harbor to dump the tea into the sea, it was a protest about the tax on tea, this led to war
what was the second continental congress? a group of colonists who desired a split from the british crown. an army was formed and led by george Washington
what does debt mean? to owe something
how was the army supported financially? the process began of printing paper money
who were patriots? colonists who favored independence and were willing to fight for it
who were loyalists? colonists who remained loyal to the king and britain (minority-represented by each colony)
