What places speak French? Quebec, Louisiana, Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, the island of Reunion, Haiti, Senegal, Republic of Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Chad, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Andorra, and Monaco.
Who is Isabelle Adjani? A talented actress who is well-known for her award-winning roles in French Films. In the 1980's she publicly acknowledged her Algerian heritage and began a campaign to raise consciousness about the racism in France.
Who is Jacques Cousteau? Gained he's worldwide attention for his undersea expeditions as the commander of the Calypso and for inventing the aqualung. He also invented a process for filming underwater.
Who is Leopold Senghor? He was the first black Afraican high school teacher in France. He was President of Senegal from 1960- 1980. He was also the first black member of the Academie Francaise.
Who is Marie Curie? Her and her husband won a Nobel prize in physics for her study of radioactivity. Several years later she also won an individual Nobel prize for chemistry. First woman to teach at the Sorbonne in Paris.
Who is Victor Hugo? He is a novelist, poet, and political activist, Hugo led the Romantic Movement in French literature. Famous for the The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Les Miserables.
Who is Zinedine Zidane? He is a ell known soccer player in France. He has received many awards for his accomplishments in soccer. Helped the National French Team to visrtory by scoring two important goals to win the World Soccer Championship. Also received a Golden Ball award.
Who is Celine Dion? Native of Quebec. She is an award winning singer whose works include French and English. She was awarded a Grammy for Album of the Year in 1996 and Best Pop Album. Performed in the opening ceremonies in the 96 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.
Who is Gerard Depardieu? He is a popular actor, director, and producer who has appeared in over 70 films. Won a Golden Globe for his performance in Green Card in 1990 which also marked his American film debut.

How do you ask someones name? Tu t'appelles comment?
How do you give your name in French? Je m'appelle...
What is a cognate? Words in different languages that look alike. They are pronounced differently but have the same meaning in French and English.
What does the accent aigu do? Can only go over an e. Changes the sound from euh to ay. Written above the letter. Looks like this:
What does the accent grave do? Only goes over the a, e, and u. Goes above the letter. Looks like this:
What does the accent circonflexe do? Goes over the a, e, i, o, and u. DONT DOT THE "i". doesn't change the pronunciation.
What does the accent trema do? Goes over the e, i, and u. DONT DOT THE "i". pronounce two vowels in a row as separate sounds. Looks like this:
What does the accent cedille do? Only goes under the c. Keeps a oft "c" sound. Goes under the letter. Looks like this:
What does "no diphthongs" mean? Don't draw out your vowel sounds. Don't drop your jaw and cut the vowel sounds short. "bay" = "be".
What does "no plosives" mean? b, d, t, p. soften your consonants.
What does "no fricatives" mean? f, and v. soften your constants. Touch and Go.
What does "even syllabification" mean? Don't empahsize one syllable over another.
