Why are our rights as Americans limited? The governmen can restrict certain rights to protect the community or to prevent one person's right from interering with the rights of thers.
What was gained from the Civil Rights Act of 1964? It ended discrimination by sex, religion, or national origin.
What power was given to the federal goverment a sa result of the Voting Rights Act of 1965? The federal government was empowered to intervene where voting rights were being restricted due to discrimination.
What does it mean to have equal protection? It means that everyone should be treated equally under the law.
What two rights does the 14th amendment guarantee? due process and equal protection
Identify the three ways in which citizens pay taxes. income tax, sales tax, property tax
What is toleration? It is respecting and accepting others, regardless of their beliefs, practices, or other differences.
What is a draft? It is when the government calls up men for military service.
Sending black students and white student to different schools is an example of what? segregation
Forcing African Americans to sit in the back of the bus is an exaple of what? discrimination
