Maryland(1633) Established as a haven for the Catholic minority. Also as a secondary plantation colony
Rhode Island(1636) Religious tolerance. Was created by Roger Williams who was banished from Massachusetts
Connecticut(1636) Religious freedoms and voting rights
New Hampshire(1638) Intended as a commercial venture for fishing and lumber.
North Carolina(1653) Founded by Virginians
South Carolina(1663) Founded by 8 nobles
New Jersey(1664) Founded by Berkeley and Carteret
Pennsylvania(1682) Given to the Quakers from King Charles II to pay off a debt.
Georgia(1732) To provide a buffer between Spanish Florida and the English colonies. Used to deposit unwanted people such as criminals.
