APUSH Amendments

Amendment One | Four Freedom's: 1. No religious establishment 2. Cannot prohibit exercise practicing 3. Freedom of speech/media 4. Freedom to assemble and petition government |
Amendment Two | Hotly debated. The right to bear arms. |
Amendment Three | Prohibits soldiers from inhabiting American's houses unless there is consent. |
Amendment Four | Relates to the Writs of Assistance. Prohibits search warrants to exceed what is specifically to be searched for and where it is to be found. |
Amendment Five | Five provisions: 1. No person held to answer for infamous crime. 2. No double jeopardy 3. The right to the refusal to answer a question. 4. The right to Life, liberty and property. 5. Private property can only be taken for just compensation. |
Amendment Six | BROAD 1. Speedy and public trial 2. Must be informed of nature and cause of accusation 3. right to a lawyer 4. must be confronted with witnesses against him 5. compulsory process obtain witnesses in his favor |
Amendment Seven | NARROW If a controversy exceeds 20 dollars, there can be a trial by jury. |
Amendment Eight | REALLY BROAD Can't be cruel or unusual punishment or excessive punishment or excessive bail (cannot be unpayable; to determine, crime committed, your income, etc.) |
Amendment Nine | EXTREMELY BROAD Not all rights are listed in constitution, but that does not mean that are not guaranteed. |
Amendment Ten | Whatever the constitution does not give Congress or is prohibited for the states, the powers are reserved for the states (the people). |
