What happened to Railroads in the late 1800s? They were very powerful, rich, and corrupt

What happened to jobs as the workplace became more mechanized (there were more machines)? Jobs being highly specific, monotonous tasks that required very little skill.

Industrial Union united all craft workers and common laborers in a particular industry
Economy of Scales Where a corporation makes goods more cheaply because they produce so much so quickly using large manufacturing facilities. It results in lower costs and lower prices.
Where did the Transcontinental Railroad start and end? Omaha, Nebraska to Sacramento, CA
Land grant A grant of land by the federal government especially for roads, RAILROADS, or agricultural colleges. The sale of these land grants was the main way that the railroads raised money
Describe the stock of a cattle drive? The herd came from many different owners.
In the early days of industrialization, why did many members of Congress believe that tariffs were necessary? They would help new American industries compete with large established European factories.
Why did it make sense of big corporations to continue operating during poor economic times? Operating costs (low wages) were lower than the fixed costs (cost of machines)
Who used the phrase "Pike's Peak or Bust"? Gold miners near Pike's Peak
What is a dime novel? an exaggerated tale about cowboys
How did department stores change the idea of shopping? by using advertising and many different products displayed in one place- elegantly
