Tribes needed to know for apush before colonization.

QuestionAnswer
Who were the Adena people? They were the Native American tribe(s) that lived along the Ohio River. They eventually moved into the Hopewell culture.
Who were the Hopewell people? A tribe of Indians (in Ohio) that set up a trading system, created large cities, and even increased their food supply b y domesticating plants.
What were pueblos? Pueblos were elaborate, multi-room stone structures that were used by many southwestern tribes (example= Mesa Verde).
Who were the Mississipian people? They lived north of the Rio Grande, had high farming technology, had large temples in small cities, and had a privileged class of people.
Who were the Iroqouis people? They were a tribe that lived in up-state New York, had a traditional culture and life, and they were not as advanced as some other tribes.
Who were the Mayas? They developed a written language, a numerical system, an accurate calendar, trade routes, and advanced agricultural systems (very advanced society).
Who were the Incas? They were the largest empire in the Americas, had a very powerful leader called Pachacuti, they owned extensive land, and also allied with many other smaller tribes.
Who were the Aztecs? They called themselves Mexica, established a very large city, and had a massive population.
What are matrilineal societies? societies where the women are the farmers and they pass these rights down to their daughters.
What were Mestizos? They were people of mixed blood, they were mixed racially because they had one parent of spanish heritage and the other native american.
What were the five civilized tribes? Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw (they were southern native american tribes).
