continental drift | the theory that the continents were once joined and the slowly drifted apart |

plate tectonics | refers to all the physical processes that create many of the earths physical features |
subduction | the heavier sea plates dives beneath the lighter continental plate |
spreading | sea plates also can pull apart in a process |
faulting | occurs when the folded land cannot be bent any further |
faults | plates may grind or slide past each other, creating cracks in the earths crust |
ring of fire | one of the most famous earth quake |
