| Term | Definition |
| Graphic | Relating to visual art, especially things like drawing, engraving, and lettering |
| Bleed | To describe a document which has images or elements that touch the edge of the page |
| Caption | A brief explanation of an image |
| Dropped cap | A large initial letter that drops below the first line of a paragraph |
| Pull quote | A brief, attention getting quote, typically a distinctive typeface |
| Sidebar | A short article in a newspaper or magazine placed alongside the main article |
| End mark | A punctuation mark occurring at the end of a sentence |
| Nameplate | It is a stylized banner in the front of a newspaper to identify the publication |
| Main Heading | Part of the heading string that doesn't have any subdivision |
| Subheading | A heading given to a subdivision of a piece of writing. |
| Byline | A line in a newspaper naming the writer of an article. |
| Kicker | A short lead in phrase at the start of a piece of writing. |
| Deck | A form of visual signpost that helps a reader assess an article before reading the whole thing |
| Body | The base of the article. |
| Jumpline | A phrase that tells the reading where an article will continue at |
| Running header/footer | The lines at the top and bottom of a page to help the reader navigate. |
