| Vocab Word | Vocab Definition |
| Argument | Making a claim and supporting it using logic. |
| Persuasion | Making a claim and supporting it using feelings and emotions. |
| Claim/Thesis | The point you are trying to get your readers accept. (last sentence of 1st paragraph) |
| Evidence | Facts that support your claim |
| Bridge/Warrant | Statement that explains how the evidence supports and connects to the claim. |
| Counter/Argument | Challenging the argument by addressing the position of someone of someone who may not agree with the argument (Paragraph 4) |
| Turn-Back/Refutation | Demonstrating why the counter-argument is wrong. |
| Audience | Who will be affected by the topic? Who will read the essay? |
| Introduction | 1st paragraph that begins the essay. |
| lead/hook | The first sentence of your essay that encourages readers to continue reading because it's interesting. (Quote, unusual detail, statistics/fact, strong statement, question, anecdote) |
| Background Information | sentences that tell about the importance of your topic ( Found between the hook/lead and your thesis) |
