Term | Definition |
Accompany (music) | to play or sing along with, especially on piano; to provide an accompaniment |
Conductor (music) | a person who directs a musical group, such as an orchestra or chorus, communicating to the performers how they should play or nuances of the music by motions of a baton or the hands |
Cornet | a wind instrument of the trumpet class. It is more compact, and more mellow, than the trumpet |
Gig | a one-time professional engagement, usually brief, as of musicians for a one-night event |
Melody | an organized sequence of single tones making up a particular musical phrase or idea, as distinct from harmony and rhythm; the leading part in a composition, as distinct from the accompaniment |
Musician | one who composes, conducts, or performs music, especially instrumental music, whether professionally or privately |
Solo | a piece of music (or portion of a piece of music), performed alone and unaccompanied by a single musician |
Trombone | a brass instrument consisting of a long cylindrical tube bent upon itself twice, ending in a bell-shaped mouth, and having a movable U-shaped slide for producing different pitches. Its tone is mellower than that of the trumpet |
Trumpet | a soprano brass wind instrument consisting of a long metal tube looped once and ending in a flared bell, the modern type being equipped with three valves for producing variations in pitch |
Bribe | money or some desired object given or promised in order to corrupt the behavior of a person, especially a public official, athlete, soldier, etc |
Corrupt | 1) tainted, soiled, or infected 2) guilty of dishonesty, bribery, or other crooked practices, usually while in a position of authority |
Ethnic | characteristic of a group of people who share a common and distinguishable racial, national, religious, linguistic, or cultural heritage |
Intimidate | to frighten or terrify; to try to force into or discourage from some action by inciting fear |
Lynch | to put to death illegally via mob action (usually by hanging) |
Minority | 1) (political) small group as opposed to a majority; as in ethnicity, religion, voting, etc ; 2) (social) (see Week 26) |
Normalcy | the condition of being normal, often used to refer to national economic, political, and social conditions (more correctly, normality) |
Racist | one who hates or is intolerant of another race or other races (usually believing his own to be superior) |
Scandal | a publicized incident that brings about disgrace or offends the moral sensibilities of society |
Supremacist | a person who believes that one particular group is better than others physically, intellectually, and/or morally, especially a racial group |
