Separation of Powers | Idea that government should be divided into 3 branches to avoid abuse of power. |

Elastic Clause | Give Congress the power to make all laws necessary and proper to carry out it's duties. |

Constitution | Establishes the structure of the present national government. Living Document Supreme law of the land. |
Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom | Established freedom of religious beliefs and opinions. Model for the 1st amendment to the Constitution. |
Checks and Balances | A system in which each branch of government is able to limit the power of the other 2 branches. |
Shay's Rebellion | One of the final events proving the weakness of the Articles of Confederation. Leading to the convention to revise the Articles. |
