Imperialists | A group of people that wanted to expand the empire throughout the world. They supported the Britain in the Boer War. |
Nationalists | People who love their country. A example is the French-Canadians who wanted Canada to be more independent from Britain. |

Discrimination and racism | A prejudice attitude toward a certain race or group. |
Chinese head tax | A taxation which was aimed toward only Chinese immigrants in the early 1900's. This tax has been a subject of controversy and was abolished in the 1940's. |
Aboriginal residential schools | Unsanitary schools ran by the churches in the early 1900's. They provide poor living conditions and aid the spread of contagious diseases. |
Aboriginal assimilation | A policy introduced by the federal government in 1871. Its purpose is to force the aboriginal people to abandon their traditional culture and become part of the European way of life. |
