| Task-oriented Group | To increase client's awareness of their needs, values, ideas, feelings and behaviors. Mainly for cognitive and socioemotional dysfunction from psychological and/or physical trauma. |
| Instrumental Group | Meet mental health needs and help individual's maintain highest possible level of functioning (should be this prior to group). Mainly a maintenance group. |
| Developmental Parallel | All developmental groups to help with increasing group interaction/social skills. Parallel: to perform specific tasks in the presence of others. Even with minimal interaction build trust and comfort. |
| Developmental Project | Shared short-term activity.Members give and seek assistance. |
| Developmental Egocentric/Cooperative | Members select and implement long-term activity. Identify and meet the needs of themselves and others. |
| Developmental Cooperative | Free expression of ideas and feelings. To enable members to identify socioemotional needs. (may not end with a tangible product.) |
| Developmental Mature | Enable members to assume all functions and enforce behaviors of need satisfaction and task completion. |
