Term | Definition |
Constitutional Monarchy | A government where the King or Queen acts as "head of state." Power to make and enforce laws is made by elected representatives. |
Anarchy | The complete absence of government. |
Representative Democracy | This system relies on elected representatives to make government decisions. Through these representatives, everyone gets a voice in the government. |
Absolute Monarchy | Leaders rule by "divine rights" and power usually passes to a family member from generation to generation; this leader still rules with complete power. |
Dictatorship | One leader takes over by force, usually with military support and makes all the decisions themselves. |
Theocracy | A group of religious leaders makes all government decisions. |
Direct Democracy | The people vote on decisions and laws directly, without representation. |
Communism | An economic and government system. This government spreads out wealth (money) equally to all citizens. |
