ally | a person or group that joins with another to work toward a goal. |
militia | a group of ordinary people who train for battle |
proclamation | an official public statement |
commander | the officer in charge of an army |
liberty | freedom from being controlled by another government |
boycott | the refusal to buy, sell, or use certain goods |
correspondence | written communication |
patriot | a colonist who opposed British rule |
rebellion | a fight against a government |
petition | a written request from a number of people |
smuggling | to import goods illegally |
quarter | to give people food and shelter |
repeal | to cancel something such as a law |
congress | a group of representatives who meet to discuss a subject |
minutemen | militia with special training...they had to be ready for battle at a minute's notice |
tax | money that people pay to their government in return for services |
delegate | someone chosen to speak and act for others |
protest | an event at which people speak out about an issue |
massacre | the killing of many people |
