Term | Definition |
archaeology | the study of the remains left by our ancestors |
sources | evidence, such as documents and pictures, used by historians to find out what happened in the past |
history | the study of events in the past and the story of human activity |
prehistory | the period before writing was used, for example the Stone Age was in prehistoric Ireland. |
primary source | evidence that come directly from the past, for example, diaries, interviews, government records, paintings or newspapers |
secondary source | evidence that comes from a later date which was written or created after the event, for example, a text book, movies, a biography, TV or radio documentary and the internet. |
bias | strong personal opinion about an event and tries to put this across as correct |
exaggeration | retelling of events with added detail or information left out usually found with songs, stories or poems. |
propaganda | to deliberately create a source which is bias to support the writers views or spread the ideas of a group. |
