1906 | Free School Meals- all children of a certain age were entitled to free school meals |
1907 | School Medical Inspections |
1909 | Old Age Pensions Act- people over 70 receive 5 shillings per week state pension as long as their income is less than 12 shillings a week. Labour exchanges- set up to help the unemployed find work |
1911 | National Insurance Act- Workers could pay a portion of their wages to the government for free medical healthcare when they were ill and sick pay. |
1875 | Artisan Dwellings Act- government were given the power to buy and demolish slum housing |
1866 | Sanitary Act- all towns had to appoint inspectors to check water supply and drainage |
1878 | Public Health Act- towns had to appoint health inspectors and sanitary inspectors. Local authorities were given the power to enforce regulations on water supplies and sanitation |
1848 | First Public Health Act- asked councils to set up their own board of health, appoint local medical officers, clear rubbish from the streets and build sewers. Wasn't compulsory so most councils ignored it |
