Lincoln/Douglas Debate | Both were running for the senate seat in Illinois. Who could determine a state to be free of slave was the question they were debating. South felt uneasy about both arguments. The debate is known across the U.S. and gains Lincoln fame. |
Election of 1860 | Lincoln wins with only 40% of the votes but 180 of the electoral votes. Lincoln was not even on the souths balit and they were afraid he would ban slavery. |
John Brown and Harpers Ferry 1859 | He tried to raid the armory of a Ferry it failed. He wanted to start a slave uprising revolt by breaking into a federal armory to arm the slaves. They break into the armory but no slaves come to help. John Brown is tried and hung. |
The Dred Scott Decision | He sued his master because he lived in a free state but the court went with the master because he was property in their eyes and not a citizen so he can not sue in the first place. |
Then Kansas Nebraska Act | Both sides went to kansas to swing the vote and it led to armed conflict. |
Uncle Tom's Cabin Published | It was written by a woman called Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was the most influential american novel ever. It inspired songs and merchandise. It gave arousing reasons against slavery. Depicts the cruelty of slavery in the south. |
Compromise of 1850 | It ended slave trade in D.C. it made it easier for southerners to get slaves back. It made all northerners return slaves. This made the underground railroad. |
Missouri Compromise | It was allowed but Missouri was admitted as a slave state and Maine was free and except for Missouri slavery of the Louisiana purchase latitude 36 30. |
