software | programs or applications that interpret instructions that tell the hardware what to do |
operating system | main program that controls the computer and makes it work |
Microsoft Windows | operating system (OS) used by the majority of PCs |
Mac OS X | operating system (OS) used by Apple computers |
word processing software | program used to create letters, reports, and other text documents (Microsoft Word) |
spreadsheet software program | used for calculating numbers and creating tables, charts, and graphs (Microsoft Excel) |
presentation software | program used to create slide shows (Microsoft PowerPoint) |
Margin | – a blank space at the top, bottom, and sides of a document |
Insertion point | – the symbol (often a blinking vertical line) on the screen where text and data is to be entered |
Alignment | the arrangement of text lined up along the left, center, right, or across the page |
Bulleted list | a series of text that uses characters, such as dots or diamonds, to present information in no particular order |
Numbered list | a series of text that uses numbers to present information in a particular order |
decision | the choice between two or more possibilities |
decision making process | a process of considering and analyzing choices in order to make the best decision |
instant gratification | an unwillingness to give up something now in return for something later |
delayed gratification | a willingness to give up something now in return for something later choice |
College | an institution of higher education that awards degrees and certificates |
Bachelor’s Degree | the undergraduate degree offered by four year colleges and universities |
Master’s Degrees | is a graduate degree added onto a bachelor’s degree; it usually takes two years to complete |
Doctoral Degree | this degree can take five or more years after a bachelor’s degree to complete |
Vocational/Technical School | a school in which students are taught the skills needed to perform a specific job |
Junior/Community College | a two year college usually offering 2 year associate’s degrees |
Loan | money borrowed that must be repaid with interest. |
Grant | money received for college that does not have to be paid back; Most are based on financial need or specific circumstances. |
Scholarship | money received for college that does not have to be paid back; Most are based on merit, such as academics, athletics, or leadership. |
Authoritarian Leadership | when a leader dictates policies and procedures, decides what goals are to be achieved, and directs and controls all activities without any meaningful participation by the subordinates. |
Participative Leadership | that invites input from employees on all company decisions. |
Delegative Leadership | he leader allows the employees to make the decisions. |
Casual Dress Code | Guys- Jeans or Slacks, Collard shirts and sweaters, loafers or tasteful sneakers Ladies- Jeans, Pants, or Skirts, Blouses or sweaters, Open toed shoes or flats |
