empire | A group of countries or regions that are controlled by one ruler or one goverment |
gladiator | a man in ancient Rome who fought against another man or animal for public entertainment |
governor | a person who is the leader of the government of a state, province |
legend | a story from the past that is believed by many people but cannot be proved to be true |
legion | a large group of soldiers in ancient Rome |
myth | a story that was told in an ancient culture to explain a practice, belief, or natural occurrence |
pension | money that is paid to a person after retirement from some kind of service or job |
sewage | waste material (such as human urine and feces) that is carried away from homes and other buildings in a system of pipes |
ampitheatre | large, circular or oval open-air buildings with raised seating where ancient Romans watched contests and other events |
assembly | a group of citizens that met together to make laws in the Ancient Roman Republic |
aqueduct | a system of channels, that sometimes looks like a bridge, that carries transports water over long distances |
archaeology | a science that deals with past human life and activities by studying the bones, tools, etc., of ancient people |
barbarian | people from outside of Rome, whom the ancient Romans considered to be inferior |
catapult | an ancient weapon used for throwing large rocks |
cavalry | the part of an army that in the past had soldiers who rode horses |
