Amendment #2   A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.

Amendment #3   No soldier shall, in time of peace, be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

Amendment #4   protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government.

Bill of Rights   the first ten amendments to the US Constitution, ratified in 1791 and guaranteeing such rights as the freedoms of speech, assembly, and worship.

Preamble (important words from the Preamble)   the introduction to a formal document that often tells why the document was written. The Preamble shows that power belongs to 'we the people. '

Balances of Power   an equilibrium of power sufficient to discourage or prevent one nation or party from imposing its will on or interfering with the interests of another.

Checks and Balances   a system by which each branch of government limits the power of other branches so that one branch does not become too powerful
