Ganges River   Starts in the Himalayas and flows southeast through India and Bangladesh for more than 1,500 miles to the Indian Ocean and is sacred to Hindu religion

Huang He (Yellow River)   Begins in Tibet and flows east to the Yellow Sea and named for yellow silt and nicknamed “China’s Sorrow” because of flooding

Yangtze (Chang Jiang) River   Yangtze (Chang Jiang) River begins in the Tibetan Plateau and travels east until it reaches the East China Sea. Largest and longest river in China (over 3,400 miles)

Bay of Bengal   An “arm” of the Indian Ocean with India to its west and Myanmar to its east. The Ganges & other rivers flow into this bay

Flooding   When monsoons are too severe, the rivers overflow & water sweeps over the land. Homes & crops are buried and lives are lost
