| Passchendaele | The battle took place on the Ypres salient on the Western Front, in Belgium, where German and Allied armies had been deadlocked for three years.

| Ypres | Second Battle of Ypres, (April 22–May 25, 1915). The battle marked the German's first use of poison gas as a weapon. Although the gas attack opened a wide hole in the Allied line, the Germans failed to exploit that advantage.
