What was the thing that triggered WW1?   Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a group of people called "The Black Hand" because they didn't want to join the country he was running. The country of Hungary.

What is trench foot?   It's a fungus that soldiers got when the kept their wet socks on. The fungus was deadly to the feet.

What was the main goal of the "Vimy Ridge" battle.   It was to take over a ridge that the Germans had had possession of since the war started.

Why did the Canadians have an advantage compared to the British ad the French in "Vimy Ridge"?   The Canadian soldiers have the advantage of practicing on a replica of the battle field for a couple months. As soon as they were sent to battle they knew exactly where to go.

How many people died in the "Somme" war   Casualties topped 1 million, including the deaths of more than 300,000. British troops sustained 420,000 casualties—including 125,000 deaths—during the Battle of the Somme. The casualties also included 200,000 French troops and 500,000 German soldiers.

Passchendaele   The battle took place on the Ypres salient on the Western Front, in Belgium, where German and Allied armies had been deadlocked for three years.

Ypres   Second Battle of Ypres, (April 22–May 25, 1915). The battle marked the German's first use of poison gas as a weapon. Although the gas attack opened a wide hole in the Allied line, the Germans failed to exploit that advantage.

Chlorine gas   It was used by the Germans to gas the British. This worked and ended up making the British evacuate the trench.

Conditions of the Trenches   No plumbing, dead bodies, rats, Ammonia, trench foot, etc.

Conscription   The act of bringing someone to war against their will.

Barbed Wire   Used to keep the soldiers from entering the bunker. Slowed them down.

No man's land   A place where soldiers could not go because they would be killed by either a sniper or bombs going off.

Jazz Music   Music played by saxophones and soothing instruments.

Bootleggers   People who illegally got alcohol for the speakeasy's after the prohibition...
