Nationalism   Loyalty to the common language, culture, and tradition. Not necessarily attached to a recognized state.

Trench Warfare   WW1 was the beginning of a new kind of war, soldiers no longer fought face to face, they would crouch in dug out trenches in the ground and try to advance from trench to trench, firing at the enemy while doing so.

Battle of Attrition   In WW1, battles were fought over long periods of time with armies making only small gains at a time against their enemies.

"Stab in Back" Theory   When the government blames the civilians for the mistakes of the government.

New War technologies   In WW1, soldiers were armed with machine guns, and heavy artillery, as well as tanks, airplanes, and boats. This didn't make the war shorter, as expected, but longer.
